Costas Ioannou

He made his first literary appearance in 1990 with the volume
52 hellenic haiku.
Till 1998 he worked as civil engineer in the construction of road and harbour projects in Greece and overseas. His travels and stay in countries of Africa nad the Middle East offered him many stimuli for his writing, mainly the poetry.
After 1998, he devoted himself almost solely to writing, translating foreign poetry and to editing and publishing books of his and other writers.

He has published five volumes of poems. The two of them:
Haiku and Kikô (1997) and Afrique mon amante (2007) in bilingual editions.
He is one of the very few Greek haikuists, who has succeeded in rendering many of his haiku into an other language while keeping the traditional form of 17 (5-7-5) syllables. Parallel, his three kikô (the first in the
52 hellenic haiku, and the other two, bilingual, in the Haiku and Kikô, are to date the only ones of this kind in the greek bibliography.
Poems of his have been appeared in magazines and haiku anthologies.

He has translated and edited six volumes of anglophone poetry: Emily Dickinson (three volumes), Sylvia Plath, D. H. Lawrence and Rupert Brooke. And, two Anthologies; the first one of 27 anglophone poets and poetesses on the subject of
Hellas in the Anglophone Poetry (1750 - 1950), and the second one of 54 poetesses (of four languages: english, french, spanish and german) having written poems on the love and friendship between women (1650 - 2000).
